Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is returning to IMAX theaters on October 30, Quentin Tarantino's acclaimed 2019 film getting a premium-format rerelease ahead of Brad Pitt's return as Cliff Booth in David Fincher's spin-off film. MAX announced the rerelease on its official X account, pairing the film's trailer with the caption that the movie is "coming to the biggest screen on October 30."

IMAX Rerelease Details: October 30

Written and directed by Tarantino, Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood stars Pitt alongside Leonardo DiCaprio as Rick Dalton and Margot Robbie as Sharon Tate, with an ensemble cast including Al Pacino, Kurt Russell, Dakota Fanning, Margaret Qualley, Timothy Olyphant, Bruce Dern, Damian Lewis, Austin Butler, Emile Hirsch and Luke Perry. Set in 1969 Los Angeles, the comedy-drama is Tarantino's tribute to the end of Hollywood's golden age. The rerelease is timed as a lead-in to The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth: as the announcement put it, "Hollywood's favorite fixer is back, exclusively in IMAX." The Cliff Booth Spin-Off: November 25

The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth is directed by David Fincher from an original screenplay by Tarantino — the first film he has written but not directed since 1996's From Dusk Till Dawn, per Polygon. Pitt reprises the role of Cliff Booth that won him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor; Timothy Olyphant also returns, alongside Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, Matt Groove and JB Tadena. The film carries a reported $200 million budget and is set in 1977, eight years after the original, with Booth now working as a Hollywood fixer. Netflix's official synopsis opens with "murder, blackmail, theft, extortion — just another summer in Hollywood" and describes Booth taking on a case for talent agent Karen Crosby (Debicki) and her client, TV star Charlie Peters (Caan). The spin-off opens in a two-week exclusive IMAX theatrical engagement on November 25, 2026 — a first for Netflix — before streaming on Netflix on December 23.

Legacy of the Film: Oscars and Box Office

The 2019 original earned 10 Oscar nominations at the 92nd Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, and grossed more than $378 million worldwide on a $90 million budget. The spin-off's trailer opened with a callback to one of the original's most memorable moments — Cliff's legendary fight with Bruce Lee — signaling how directly the new film leans on the world Tarantino built.

The bottom line: October 30 brings Tarantino's 1969 Hollywood epic back to the biggest screens, and November 25 puts its breakout character — Pitt's Oscar-winning Cliff Booth — front and center in Fincher's $200 million spin-off. It is a rare one-two theatrical moment built around a single iconic performance.
