The vivo X500 is vivo's new entry-point flagship, launched in China on September 21, 2026. Verdict: a battery-first flagship killer — a 7,500mAh cell, genuine ZEISS camera hardware, and a 144Hz AMOLED at around $819 make it one of the best-value phones of the year, even if its chip is a familiar face.

Design & Display

The X500 breaks from the recent X-series look: a slimmer, off-center circular camera module sitting on a rectangular plateau, with a matte glass back and aluminum frame. At 8.15mm thin and around 211g, it hides its monster battery remarkably well, and the IP68/IP69 rating means dust and water are no worry. The 6.59-inch LTPS AMOLED runs a 1.5K resolution at up to 144Hz adaptive refresh, supports HDR10+, and peaks at up to 4,000 nits — fully readable in harsh sunlight. A 3D ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor handles unlocking.

Performance

The Dimensity 9600M is the world's first chip of its kind in a phone, but it is essentially last year's Dimensity 9500 with a new Scheduling Engine 3.0 software upgrade, built on 3nm with an all-big-core CPU peaking at 4.21GHz and a new ARM G1-Ultra GPU. Paired with 12GB of LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and UFS 4.1 storage, everyday speed is flagship-class — the X500 simply doesn't get the 2nm Dimensity 9600 Pro reserved for its Pro siblings. vivo's own V3+ Blueprint imaging chip offloads computational photography to keep the main SoC free.

Performance Benchmarks

How does the X500's silicon stack up against the current top dog, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 (powering rivals like the iQOO 16 and the upcoming OnePlus 16)? On AnTuTu, the 9600M-era silicon scores around 3.3 million points (AnTuTu v11), per Beebom's testing — note the Snapdragon's reported ~5.57 million (AnTuTu v12) comes from a newer benchmark version, so treat that gap as indicative rather than exact (GizmoChina via Trakin Tech). On Geekbench 6, the Snapdragon reference unit posted ~4,291 single-core and ~12,686 multi-core, with MediaTek's new 2nm 9600 Pro at roughly 3,400/12,000 (Mezha/NewsBytes). The takeaway: the 9600M trails the newest 2nm flagships on raw throughput, but at around $819 it delivers far more than phones twice its price did a year ago.

Camera

Photography is where the X500 justifies the X badge. The 50MP Sony LYTIA-828 main sensor (1/1.28-inch, f/1.68, OIS) is the largest ever fitted to a standard vivo X phone, joined by a 50MP ultrawide and a 64MP Sony LYTIA-610 periscope telephoto with 3.1x optical zoom and CIPA 5.5-level stabilization. ZEISS T* lens coating and co-engineered color science carry over, and video is genuinely ambitious: 8K at 30fps, 4K at 120fps with 10-bit Log, and 4K 60fps cinematic portrait. The X500 even supports vivo's detachable 200mm ZEISS Teleconverter G2. The 50MP autofocus selfie camera rounds out a setup that embarrasses most phones at this price.

Battery & Charging

The headline number: 7,500mAh — roughly 40% more than most 2026 flagships still hovering around 5,000-5,500mAh. Crucially, vivo didn't trade charging speed for capacity: 90W wired and genuinely fast 40W wireless charging both made the cut, plus reverse wired charging. For heavy users, gamers, and travelers, this is two-day territory.

Price & Availability

The X500 went on sale in China on September 24, 2026, at CNY 5,499 (~$819) for 12GB/256GB, CNY 5,999 (~$893) for 12GB/512GB, and CNY 6,999 (~$1,042) for 12GB/1TB, in Dawn, Echoes of the Earth, Night Photography, and Sunny finishes. An EU launch event is set for October 27, 2026, with pre-orders opening the same day; other markets remain unconfirmed. At these prices it undercuts every 2026 flagship with comparable cameras by hundreds of dollars.

Verdict

The vivo X500 is the best-value camera flagship of late 2026. You get a true flagship camera stack, a 7,500mAh battery, a 144Hz AMOLED, and flagship build quality for around $819. The rebadged chip is the only real compromise — and for most buyers, it won't matter one bit. If it reaches your market, buy it.

Pros

  • Massive 7,500mAh battery with 90W wired and 40W wireless charging
  • Genuine ZEISS triple camera with 1/1.28-inch main sensor and periscope zoom
  • Bright 144Hz 1.5K AMOLED with slim, premium build at 8.15mm
  • Outstanding price — flagship cameras for around $819
  • IP68/IP69 rating and Android 17 with OriginOS 7

Cons

  • Dimensity 9600M is essentially a rebadged Dimensity 9500, not the 2nm 9600 Pro
  • China-only for now; global availability unconfirmed beyond the October 27 EU launch
  • Ultrawide uses the older Samsung JN1 sensor
  • Only 12GB RAM configurations offered

Where to buy

The X500 is also on sale now through vivo's official online store in China (from September 24, 2026).
