Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham is facing a wave of online backlash after a leaked audio recording captured her in conversation with a fan who hurled insults at fellow actress Funke Akindele — reigniting one of Nigerian entertainment's longest-running celebrity feuds.
The roughly 12-minute audio, which has circulated widely on social media, was released by blogger Mama Esabod and captures Abraham in a phone conversation with a TikTok fan identified as Bisgold. In the recording, conducted largely in Yoruba and pidgin, Bisgold repeatedly insults Akindele while Abraham is heard listening and laughing rather than pushing back — a detail that has drawn the sharpest criticism.
What the recording contains
According to Nigerian entertainment outlets that reviewed the clip, including Kemi Filani, the conversation shows Abraham venting about the steady stream of insults and criticism she receives online. During the call, Bisgold directs a series of derogatory remarks at Akindele, and Abraham does not reprimand the fan — instead laughing along at points, which critics say amounts to endorsing the attacks.
The recording also touches on Abraham's relationships with other industry figures. Neither Abraham nor Akindele had issued a formal public statement addressing the leaked audio at the time of publishing.
A feud years in the making
The Abraham–Akindele rivalry is one of Nollywood's most talked-about divides, with the two stars' fan bases clashing periodically for years over box-office bragging rights, awards and perceived slights. Each flare-up follows a familiar pattern: a comment or post from one camp, a pile-on from rival fans, and days of trending hashtags.
This episode fits that pattern — but the leaked-audio format, with Abraham audibly present while a fan attacks her rival, has given the latest round unusual intensity.
Fans split down the middle
Reaction online has been sharply divided. Critics of Abraham argue that laughing along while a fan insults a colleague crosses a line, and some have called on her to publicly disavow the remarks. Her supporters counter that a private phone conversation was recorded and released without her consent, and that she is being held responsible for another person's words.
Others have questioned the ethics of publishing the private call at all, regardless of its content.
What happens next
Whether either actress addresses the recording directly remains to be seen. Past episodes of the feud have eventually cooled after public statements or conspicuous silence from both camps. For now, the clip continues to circulate, and the debate over private conversations, fan behavior and celebrity responsibility shows no sign of slowing.
