Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff escaped unhurt on Sunday evening after motorcycle-borne gunmen opened fire on his car in Mumbai's Juhu area, in what police and multiple news outlets are describing as an assassination attempt. The firing took place around 7 pm on October 18, 2026, near Pushpa Narsee Park, injuring the actor's driver and an autorickshaw driver nearby. Two men identifying themselves as Lawrence Bishnoi gang operatives have since claimed responsibility on social media.

Seven Shots Fired, One Gun Jams

According to reports from The Times of India and NDTV, three men on a motorcycle targeted Shroff's car as it was leaving a venue at Pushpa Narsee Park, also known as Jamnabai Nursery. Two of the assailants stepped in front of the vehicle and fired repeatedly — seven shots in all, per Times of India reporting. When one shooter closed in for a sixth round, his gun reportedly jammed.

The attack happened barely 350 metres from the Juhu police station. Dramatic footage circulating online shows the shooters firing at the car from close range, then fleeing on a motorcycle kept ready by a third accomplice.

Shroff's driver, Firdaus, sustained a gunshot wound to his left hand, according to police statements reported by NDTV. In video that emerged after the attack, the actor is seen switching seats with his injured driver and taking the wheel himself — a woman is heard urging, "Jaldi le kar jaao, Tiger" ("take him quickly, Tiger") — before driving to Nanavati Hospital in Vile Parle. Doctors said Shroff himself suffered only minor abrasions from shattered glass, with no bullet wounds. An autorickshaw driver, identified as Chauhan, was also hit and taken to Cooper Hospital with chest injuries.

Gang Claims Responsibility, Cites Salman Khan Link

Shortly after the shooting, two men identifying themselves as Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu claimed responsibility in a social media post and a voice note, saying they were affiliated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. In the message, a man identifying himself as Pandit alleged Shroff was targeted because he had "not been heeding directions" and was "working with Salman Khan" — a connection the Bishnoi gang has invoked in past threats against Bollywood figures.

However, Times of India and NDTV have both cautioned that the authenticity of these claims has not been independently established, and police are still investigating the motive. The shooting nonetheless follows a pattern of gang-linked attacks on film personalities in Mumbai: in February 2026, five rounds were fired outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty's Juhu residence, with the Bishnoi gang claiming responsibility, and in April 2024, gunmen opened fire outside Salman Khan's Galaxy Apartments home in Bandra.

Shinde Meets Shroff, Police Form 15 Teams

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde met Shroff at his residence after the attack. Shinde said no form of threat would be tolerated in Mumbai and that gangs would not be spared, assuring the actor's family that the state administration stands with them. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke to the actor by phone, saying, "We are all with you," and directed the Mumbai police to trace and apprehend the accused quickly.

Police have formed around 15 specialised teams for the manhunt, and one person has been detained, according to police sources cited by NDTV. CCTV footage from the area is being examined and forensic teams have collected evidence from the spot.

The episode has once again thrown Mumbai's law-and-order situation into sharp political focus, with opposition leaders questioning how gangsters can strike so close to a police station in the city's western suburbs.
