Sunny Deol has gifted his fans an intense birthday surprise. The Bollywood star unveiled the teaser of his upcoming crime thriller Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak on October 19, 2026, his 69th birthday — and the 77-second glimpse packs an angry, emotionally charged punch. In the teaser, Deol plays a grieving father who turns his personal tragedy into a crusade against medical corruption, and the film is confirmed for a theatrical release on November 20, 2026.

Teaser: A father's grief becomes a fight for justice

The teaser opens with a blistering monologue in which Deol's character questions the trust patients place in doctors. "A person believes doctors are gods and entrusts his life to them. But if that doctor breaks their trust, then what will the person do?" he asks. The film's most pointed line targets doctors who allegedly order unnecessary tests and charge excessive fees: "Doctors don't write prescriptions there, they write their commissions."

Deol plays Soorya Pratap Singh, a retired police officer and family man whose life collapses after his daughter's death. When his own investigation into the tragedy exposes disturbing practices inside the medical system, he re-embraces his investigative path to uncover the uncomfortable truth. The makers describe the story as inspired by unbelievable true events, though the teaser does not name the specific cases behind it. Sharing the teaser, Deol wrote: "THEY THOUGHT IT WAS HIS END. FOR SURYAA, IT WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING."

A Joseph remake: M. Padmakumar makes his Hindi directorial debut

Suryaa is the official Hindi adaptation of Joseph, the 2018 Malayalam investigative crime thriller — and it brings back the original film's director, M. Padmakumar, marking his debut as a filmmaker in Hindi cinema. The original, headlined by Joju George, follows a retired police officer whose investigative skills draw him into a case shaped by personal tragedy.

Padmakumar has said the intention was to present Deol in an emotional space audiences have never experienced him in — carrying enormous pain from his past, with restraint, vulnerability and intensity. The story begins with a deeply personal tragedy before expanding into a disturbing investigation within the medical system, suggesting a character whose pursuit of justice is shaped as much by anguish as by anger.

Cast, crew and a November 20 box-office clash

Alongside Deol, the ensemble features Ravi Kishan as a senior investigator who joins the search for truth, plus Pragya Jaiswal, Tinu Anand, Manish Wadhwa, Jisshu Sen Gupta, Tanushree Chakraborty, Virti Vaghani, and others including the late Pankaj Dheer. The film is written by Karan Razdan, Neeraj Pathak and Mayank Sharma Dadhich, produced by Deepak Mukut, Hemmant Mukut and Lokesh Mukut under the MM Moviez banner, and presented by Kamal Mukut. Cinematography is by Santosh Thundiyil ISC, editing by Ballu Saluja, original score by Uttam Singh, with music on Zee Music Company.

The November 20 date is shaping up to be eventful: the crime drama Pratap, starring Esha Deol and Amit Sadh, releases the same day — setting up an intriguing box-office clash between two members of the Deol family.

With the teaser landing on his birthday and the film just weeks away, Suryaa positions Deol for an emotional, issue-driven turn — his familiar intensity, this time in service of a father's grief and a system's accountability. Whether the film lands its blow when it hits cinemas on November 20, 2026 is the question fans will now count down to.
