Rivian Q3 2026 deliveries hit an all-time record on October 2, with the EV maker handing over 19,248 vehicles in the third quarter as the new, cheaper R2 SUV begins to reshape its sales. The result beat Wall Street's estimates of about 18,000 deliveries and marked a 46% year-over-year jump.

Rivian Q3 2026 Delivery Numbers: Record Production and Sales

Rivian produced 19,751 vehicles at its Normal, Illinois plant during the quarter ended September 30, slightly ahead of deliveries and giving the company a small inventory cushion heading into the final quarter. Deliveries rose 58% from 12,194 in the second quarter and 46% from 13,201 a year earlier, according to figures reported by Reuters and RivianTrackr. The previous quarterly record was 15,564 vehicles, set in Q3 2023.

The quarter also pushed Rivian's 2026 total to 41,807 deliveries — just 440 short of everything the company delivered in all of 2025. Rivian does not break out deliveries by model, but analysts agree the new R2 did most of the heavy lifting.

The R2 Effect: First Full Quarter of Sales

Customer deliveries of the R2 midsize SUV began on June 9, making Q3 the first full quarter with the smaller, less expensive model in the mix. Rivian had previously targeted adding a second production shift for the R2 by the end of Q3, and the in-line results suggest that ramp is on track.

The R2 currently starts at just under $60,000, positioning it well below the flagship R1S and R1T. For now, Rivian is selling only the higher-priced R2 Performance version through the end of 2026, with customer availability of the R2's LiDAR hardware pushed to 2027. The company is betting it can sell 20,000 to 25,000 R2s by year-end — which TechCrunch notes would make it one of the fastest-selling EVs in U.S. history, second only to Tesla's Model Y. Cheaper R2 variants expected later could bring the entry point down to around $45,000.

Wall Street Reaction: A Record With a Caveat

Despite the blowout quarter, Rivian shares fell more than 2% in early trading Friday. "The market is reacting to management maintaining full-year guidance," said Seth Goldstein, senior equity analyst at Morningstar. "Following the strong third quarter numbers, I think the market was looking for a guidance raise."

Rivian reaffirmed its 2026 delivery forecast of 65,000 to 70,000 vehicles, a range it had already raised in July from 62,000 to 67,000. Hitting it will require between 23,200 and 28,200 deliveries in Q4 — another record quarter in the making.

What Comes Next for Rivian

Rivian will report full third-quarter financial results on October 29 after market close. The company is also expanding capacity: a second plant under construction outside Atlanta, Georgia, is expected to come online in 2028 with eventual capacity of as many as 300,000 vehicles per year.

The record quarter landed on the same day Tesla reported better-than-expected Q3 deliveries (down roughly 2% year over year) with 464,391 vehicles produced. With Ford and GM posting steep EV sales declines, Deepwater Asset Management's Gene Munster declared the "EV winter" is thawing — and Rivian's R2-led surge is a big reason why.
