Ramayana: Rise of a Legend just took a major step toward its November 5 release: the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has cleared the film's 3D trailer, and the two-minute-26-second cut will start playing in cinemas from next week. The move signals the start of the full-scale theatrical push for what is being positioned as the most ambitious Indian film ever mounted.
What the 3D trailer brings
Cleared by the CBFC on October 15, the trailer is cut specifically for the 3D version of the film — the format director Nitesh Tiwari considers central to his vision. A new promotional video unveiled alongside it reveals previously unseen footage: Ranbir Kapoor's battle sequences as Rama, Sai Pallavi's warrior avatar as Sita, and Yash's Shiv Tandav as Ravana. The official trailer leans hard into the Rama-versus-Ravana confrontation, with Rama warning, "If I don't stop him, the world will fall."
The epic's scale
The pedigree behind the camera is unmatched. Tiwari — whose Dangal remains the highest-grossing Indian film worldwide — directs, with Namit Malhotra producing. The visuals come from Malhotra's DNEG, the Academy Award-winning effects house behind Dune, Interstellar, and Inception, while the score pairs two Oscar winners: Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman. The ensemble spans Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash, with Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, Kunal Kapoor as Indra, plus Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, and Vivek Oberoi.
A global release strategy
A source close to the production told mid-day the 3D and IMAX push is key to the film's global strategy: the makers are targeting more than 50,000 screens in international markets and approximately 9,000 screens in India. Part one arrives worldwide on November 5, 2026, with part two planned for Diwali 2027. The trailer also teases mythological spectacle — the Pushpaka Vimana, Ravana's flying chariot, and Jatayu, the bird warrior who fights Ravana.
The takeaway: with the CBFC nod in hand and the 3D trailer hitting theaters next week, Ramayana: Rise of a Legend is now officially in launch mode — and its makers are betting that 3D and IMAX spectacle will pull audiences back to the big screen.
