The OnePlus 16 is the most extreme spec sheet of 2026: a 9,000mAh battery, a 200MP main camera, and the first 2nm Snapdragon chip, launched in China on October 12. The catch: most of the world cannot buy it.

The short version: the OnePlus 16 is a gaming-first flagship with the biggest battery in its class, from around $896 in China. But with no confirmed launch outside China and independent tests still weeks away, it is a monster on paper that most readers will only admire from afar.

Design and Display

The OnePlus 16 keeps the familiar flat 6.78-inch panel and square camera module. The party trick is the Tomorrow's Starlight colorway, whose back hides an LED array that glows to spell out a large "16". The Martian Masterpiece version is lightest at 217g.

The display is the standout: a BOE X4 LTPO AMOLED at 1,272 x 2,772 that runs 165Hz across the whole system and unlocks 185Hz in supported games, the fastest panel on any mainstream phone. OnePlus claims up to 2,000 nits peak brightness and 1.15mm bezels, with durability ratings of IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K.

Performance

Powering it all is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, built on a 2nm process with an Adreno 850 GPU, paired with 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. Gamers get a triple-chip esports setup with dedicated display, network, and touch chips aimed at cutting latency.

Performance Benchmarks vs. the Competition

NotebookCheck reports Geekbench 7 scores of roughly 3,600 single-core and 12,300 to 12,500 multi-core on Qualcomm's reference device, with AnTuTu v12 reaching around 5.6 million. In the same generation, GizmoChina tested the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max with the same chip against the Dimensity 9600 Pro: AnTuTu scored 4,592,331 against 4,324,196.

Apple's A20 Pro remains the single-core champion at 4,741 / 12,789 on Geekbench 7 per Tom's Guide, nearly tied with the Snapdragon reference device in multi-core. The closest direct rival is the iQOO 16 5G, which launched alongside the OnePlus 16 in China with the same chip and an 8,400mAh battery. On chip power alone, the OnePlus 16 sits in the top tier of Android flagships.

Camera

The main camera jumps to 200MP on a large 1/1.4-inch sensor with f/1.6 aperture and optical stabilization, up from the OnePlus 15's 50MP unit. It is joined by a 50MP ultrawide and a 50MP 3x periscope telephoto on a sizable 1/1.95-inch Sony IMX882 sensor, both stabilized. Video reaches 8K at 30fps and 4K120 with Dolby Vision, and the 50MP autofocus front camera handles 4K selfies. Whether it closes the gap to the best camera phones awaits independent testing.

Battery and Charging

The 9,000mAh silicon-carbon battery is the headline upgrade, roughly 23 percent larger than the OnePlus 15's 7,300mAh cell. OnePlus claims it will retain over 80 percent capacity for five years, an assertion nobody has independently verified. Charging is fast but stepped back: 100W wired (down from 120W) with 50W wireless. Independent battery-life testing is the biggest unknown here.

Price and Availability

Open sales in China start October 31: the base 12GB/256GB model starts at around $896, and the top 16GB/1TB tier runs around $1,270. Multiple outlets report OnePlus will not launch the 16 in the United States or Europe, and OnePlus has been pulling back from Western markets. Outside China, the OnePlus 16 is effectively import-only with no local warranty.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Massive 9,000mAh battery with 50W wireless charging
  • 185Hz gaming display with 165Hz system-wide
  • Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 flagship power
  • 200MP triple camera, a huge upgrade

Cons:

  • No confirmed launch in the US, Europe, or India
  • Wired charging dropped from 120W to 100W
  • Battery-life and camera tests still pending

Verdict

The OnePlus 16 is a spec-sheet triumph and a market tragedy. Nothing else at this price packs a 9,000mAh battery, a 2nm flagship chip, a 185Hz display, and a 200MP triple camera. Until independent tests verify the battery and camera claims, and with no launch outside China, it stays a dream machine rather than a safe purchase.

Where to buy

The OnePlus 16 is China-only for now, with open sales starting October 31. Verified stores that carry OnePlus devices in China:
