Mirzapur Season 4 is officially in the works. Following the box-office success of Mirzapur: The Movie, the makers of the Prime Video crime saga have started developing the fourth season of the series, with director Gurmmeet Singh confirming that scripting is already underway. Actor Shweta Tripathi, who plays Gajgamini "Golu" Gupta, has told mid-day she is eager to reprise her role, calling the character's journey "special" to her.

What was confirmed

The confirmation comes straight from the top. Director Gurmmeet Singh, who helmed both the series and the film, has confirmed to Variety India that the writing process for Season 4 has begun. The new season was conceptualised and mapped alongside Mirzapur: The Movie, and its narrative is expected to pick up from the events of Season 3's finale — which left the battle for control of Mirzapur unresolved, with Guddu Pandit behind bars, Golu on the run, and Kaleen Bhaiya's return complicating the struggle for power.

The movie's success paved the way

Mirzapur: The Movie, released in theatres on September 4, 2026, marked the first major Indian streaming original to make the leap to the big screen. Directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna, the film reunited Pankaj Tripathi's Kaleen Bhaiya, Ali Fazal's Guddu Pandit and Divyenndu's Munna Bhaiya, with Jitendra Kumar taking over the role of Bablu Pandit and Ravi Kishan joining as a new challenger. According to Bollywood Hungama, the film crossed about $24 million at the box office — a run that gave the makers the confidence to expand the franchise further.

Tripathi on Golu's unfinished journey

Shweta Tripathi has played Golu Gupta since the series began in 2018, and she believes the character still has plenty left to explore. "When I first played Golu, she was a quiet, studious girl who believed in the power of education. But loss, violence, power, and revenge have completely changed her," she told mid-day. "Her journey is special to me. Golu's experiences have changed her. And she is still changing. But I think that's what makes her human. I have grown as an actor while playing her too, so in many ways, we have grown together."

She added that returning to the role keeps surprising her: "Every time I return to the character, I discover something new. I would love to keep discovering those different sides of her."

When to expect Season 4

Fans should temper their excitement with patience. While scripting is underway, details of the plot, cast and filming schedule remain under wraps, and the production timeline will be finalised only by early 2027. With no release date announced yet, the earliest realistic window for the series to land on Prime Video would be well after that — making Season 4 a long wait, but one the makers seem determined to get right.

From a reserved, studious young woman to a hardened survivor of Mirzapur's power wars, Golu Gupta has become one of Indian streaming's most layered characters. If Tripathi's enthusiasm is anything to go by, her next chapter will be worth the wait.
