Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric bookings open in India in the first week of October 2026, with the launch scheduled towards the end of the year. The all-electric GLC — the brand's best-selling model gone fully electric — will be locally assembled in India, and Mercedes says it is the fastest a global vehicle has come to India as an assembled model, arriving within just six months of sales commencing in Europe.
GLC Electric India launch: battery, range and performance
Mercedes has confirmed the GLC Electric will come to India in the GLC 400 4Matic guise. Key specifications, verified from Mercedes-Benz India's announcement:
- Battery: 94 kWh NMC pack
- Range: up to 715 km on the WLTP cycle
- Power: 490 hp (360 kW) and 800 Nm from a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup
- 0–100 km/h: 4.3 seconds — brisk for an SUV weighing over 2,500 kg
- Charging: 800-volt architecture with up to 330 kW DC fast charging
- Steering: rear-wheel steering as standard
Notably, India gets the standard-wheelbase GLC Electric (2,972 mm wheelbase) — Mercedes has not opted for the China-spec long-wheelbase version that adds a further 55 mm for the Indian market.
Design and the 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen
Design-wise, the GLC Electric is one of Mercedes' least polarising recent models. It sports the brand's new signature star-themed LED lighting, a large illuminated grille with 942 illuminated dots, and rounded proportions that are quintessentially Mercedes. AMG Line models get sportier bumpers, and wheel sizes go up to 21 inches.
Inside, the highlight is the 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen — the largest display Mercedes has ever put in a car — stretching pillar to pillar across the dashboard and combining the driver's display, touchscreen and passenger screen into one unit. The infotainment runs a newer MBUX version with a built-in AI assistant, and Mercedes has brought back physical buttons and knobs for the steering wheel and centre console.
Expected price and rivals
Because the GLC Electric will be locally assembled in India (from CKD kits, at the Chakan plant), pricing is expected to be competitive for the segment: Autocar India estimates Rs 80 lakh to Rs 90 lakh (ex-showroom). Its direct rival in India will be the upcoming BMW iX3 (launching in long-wheelbase guise), with the Audi Q6 e-tron and Porsche Macan Electric also in the frame.

The takeaway
The GLC Electric is Mercedes-Benz's most important electric launch in India yet — its best-selling nameplate, locally assembled within six months of the European rollout, with class-leading 715 km WLTP range and 330 kW charging. If the Rs 80–90 lakh estimate holds, it will go head-to-head with the BMW iX3 for India's premium electric SUV crown.
