K-pop girl group IVE has stormed YouTube's global music charts with "Looks Can Kill", the title track the six-member act pre-released on October 19, 2026. According to agency Starship Entertainment, the music video rose to No. 1 on YouTube's Music Videos Trending Worldwide chart immediately after its release, topping the chart in six countries and regions — South Korea, Japan, the UK, France, Canada and Brazil — and entering the top 10 in 18 countries and regions including the US, Germany and Australia.
A global chart takeover
The numbers underline how fast the release traveled. As of 9 a.m. on October 20, "Looks Can Kill" had appeared on music video trending charts in 34 countries and regions, and the official video passed 2.2 million views within roughly five hours of its premiere on Starship's YouTube channel. The group first performed the new song live the same evening, taking the stage at the Spotify DIVE ACADEMY live event held at ARC GANGNAM in Seoul on October 19.

The "Girl Hero" concept
"Looks Can Kill" is an electronic dance-pop track built around an intense synth-pad rhythm, a heavy, coarse bass line and dynamic drums, with a final chorus that explodes out of the bridge. The song carries IVE's signature message of confidence and self-belief: the idea that anyone can be the protagonist and hero of their own life.
The release introduces IVE's newest alter ego, the "Girl Hero" — a spin-off of the group's "Girl Fantasy" characters, following the Cupid and magical-girl concepts of earlier releases. The music video borrows the grammar of superhero films: An Yujin, Gaeul, Rei, Jang Wonyoung, Liz and Leeseo appear in colour-coded suits, while the camera moves in and out of the set itself, backed by dazzling visual effects. The visual arc expands the idea from "IVE playing heroes" to "IVE as heroes in their own right."
Member Rei took part in writing the title track's lyrics, alongside lyricists including Seo Ji-eum, Lil Cherry, Gaeko of Dynamic Duo and Rick Bridges, while fellow members Gaeul and Liz contributed lyrics to the album track "CRUMBS."
From stage to comeback
In comments released through Starship Entertainment, Jang Wonyoung said: "When you think of a hero, you might picture someone with special powers, but we tried to think about it a little differently. A small word of support given to someone can become courage for another person. Through this album, we wanted to say that we can all be heroes to one another."
An Yujin added that the group has always sung about believing in and loving oneself, and that this album turns that message outward: "this time we captured the image of having a positive influence on each other and creating new change."
The pre-release is the title track of IVE's upcoming mini-album of the same name, due out on October 26, 2026. The EP's six tracks include "Mirror Mirror," "SNAKESKIN," "CRUMBS," "Girls Girls Girls" and "Glow Motion" alongside the title song, with the October 19 pre-release giving fans the record's centerpiece a week early.
The takeaway: "Looks Can Kill" landed as both a musical statement and a global chart event — IVE's self-assurance concept now arrives dressed as a superhero origin story, and audiences in dozens of countries were watching within hours. With the full mini-album landing on October 26, the "Girl Hero" era is just getting started.
