iQOO 16 review: vivo's sub-brand just shipped the phone that makes every other flagship look overpriced. Announced in China on September 29, 2026, it pairs the 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, a 165Hz 2K AMOLED display, triple 50MP cameras, and an 8,400mAh battery at CNY 5,999 (about $894) — if you can buy one where you live.

Design and display: a 165Hz first for the brand

The iQOO 16 debuts a redesigned rear panel: a square camera module with three cameras in a triangular layout, the flash outside the island, and "100x Tele" branding inside it. Finishes include Light Chaser (shown above), Dark Blue, Silver, Legend, and Track. At 8.3mm thick and up to ~230g, it is heavier and thicker than the iQOO 15 — the price of that giant battery.

The display is the spec-sheet star: a 6.85-inch Samsung M16 AMOLED at full 2K (1440×3168) and 165Hz — a first for iQOO, up from the iQOO 15's 144Hz panel. Brightness hits 2,800 nits in high-brightness mode, with Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support plus a 3D ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor.

Performance: Qualcomm's fastest phone chip, plus a gaming co-processor

The iQOO 16 is one of the first phones with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, a 2nm chip with an Adreno 850 GPU and a dedicated Q4 gaming chip. It pairs with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X Ultra RAM, UFS 4.1 storage, an 8,500mm² vapor chamber, and 4D haptics. It is the first iQOO handset shipping with OriginOS 7 on Android 17, with Wi-Fi 7, NFC, an IR blaster, and USB-C 3.2 on board.

Cameras: three 50MP sensors, 3x periscope

Instead of chasing megapixel count like the 200MP OnePlus 16, iQOO went for balance: a 50MP main sensor (1/1.3-inch, OIS), a 50MP periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom and OIS, and a 50MP ultra-wide with autofocus. The "100x Tele" branding on the module nods to digital zoom; the real hardware is the 3x periscope. Rear video goes up to 8K, and the 32MP front camera records 4K.

Battery: 8,400mAh with bypass charging

The 8,400mAh silicon-carbon cell is one of the largest in any 2026 flagship. Charging is 100W wired (PPS/PD, 0–100 in ~19 minutes) and 40W wireless. The standout is bypass charging: during use, the phone draws power straight from the charger, cutting heat and battery wear in long gaming sessions.

iQOO 16 pros and cons

Pros

  • 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 with Q4 gaming chip — among the fastest phones anywhere
  • 6.85-inch 2K 165Hz AMOLED — a first at this resolution plus refresh rate on an iQOO
  • 8,400mAh battery with 100W wired, 40W wireless, and bypass charging
  • Triple 50MP cameras including a real 3x periscope with OIS
  • IP68/IP69 rating, aluminum frame, ultrasonic fingerprint sensor
  • Flagship silicon for about $894 in China

Cons

  • On sale only in China so far — India confirmed, no sale date; no global launch announced
  • India pricing tipped around $1,000+, which would erode the value argument
  • ~230g and 8.3mm — heavy and thick for a flagship
  • 50% pricier than the iQOO 15 at launch — rising memory costs passed on to buyers
  • Discounted iQOO 15 may be the smarter buy for many

Price and availability

On sale in China from CNY 5,999 (about $894) for the 12GB+256GB model. iQOO confirmed it for India at India Mobile Congress 2026 on October 9 — no sale date or price yet, with tipsters suggesting around $1,000, well above the iQOO 15's launch price. International buyers can import the China model, which ships with Google services and OTA updates.
