A 48-year-old man is in the hospital in stable condition after a vehicle driven by an ICE agent struck him during a chase on Clay Road in northwest Harris County on Saturday morning, October 10, 2026, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office (HCSO). The Sheriff's Office said its Vehicular Crimes Division is investigating the incident.

What happened on Clay Road

According to reporting citing HCSO, ICE agents were pursuing a wanted suspect heading south around 7:20 a.m. local time when the suspect drove west in an eastbound lane on Clay Road, abandoned his vehicle, and fled on foot along with a passenger. As agents moved to apprehend the passenger, an ICE agent struck him with a vehicle. The man is believed to have suffered a broken leg, was transported to a local hospital, and is reported to be in ICE custody. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, and his identity has not been released.

Investigation under way

HCSO said on X that "preliminary indications are that a vehicle operated by ICE authorities struck a man" and that the incident "appears to have occurred while ICE authorities were conducting an enforcement action in the area." A department spokesperson told the Houston Chronicle that investigators are working to determine exactly how the man was struck. No charges or citations have been announced, and officials cautioned that it was not immediately clear whether the man struck was the original target of the chase or the fleeing passenger.

Calls for transparency

Harris County Commissioner Lesley Briones called on ICE to "cooperate fully with the Harris County Sheriff's Office and release all video evidence of this incident." As of publication, ICE had not issued a detailed public account of what happened, and investigators say the evidence so far does not establish how the vehicle struck the man or who bears responsibility.

With an injured man in custody, an active HCSO investigation, and key questions about fault still unanswered, the Clay Road incident is likely to intensify scrutiny of federal enforcement operations in the Houston area.
