Someone texts you "don't forget to call the dentist tomorrow" — and instead of copying it into your Reminders app by hand, your iPhone offers to do it with one tap. That is the promise of Suggested Actions, an Apple Intelligence feature returning in Messages with the upcoming iOS 27.2 update. Apple showed it during iOS 27 testing, pulled it before the public release, and has now brought it back with finer controls in the iOS 27.2 beta — and Apple has already issued the release candidate, with the public update expected before the end of October. Here is exactly how to use it.
What you need
- An iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence: iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 model or later, because Suggested Actions runs on Apple's AI system.
- iOS 27.2, once the public release arrives (Apple has issued the release candidate; the update is expected before the end of October). Note that Apple reserved iOS 27.1 for the new iPhone Duo, so other iPhones jump straight from iOS 27 to iOS 27.2.
- The feature currently works in English only, per Apple's specification.
How to turn a message into a reminder
- Install iOS 27.2. When it appears, go to Settings > General > Software Update and install it.
- Open a conversation in Messages. When someone sends you something actionable — a request, a date, a task — an Add to Reminders button can appear directly beneath the message bubble.
- Tap the suggestion. Messages pre-fills a new reminder from the conversation's contents, so you do not have to retype anything. Review the details and confirm to add it to your Reminders app.
- Look for the other suggestions too. Depending on what the message contains, you may also see options to add a calendar event, create a note, view an address in Maps, or track a flight or package — each one taps straight through to the matching app.
Choose exactly which suggestions you see
One of the headline improvements in iOS 27.2 is that the suggestions are no longer all-or-nothing. To customize them:
- Open Settings, then go to Apps and tap Messages.
- Tap Suggested Actions.
- You will see individual switches for Add to Calendar, Add to Reminders, Add to Notes, Show in Maps, and Flights and Packages. Turn each one on or off separately — for example, keep Reminders and turn off Flights and Packages if you never travel.
- Optionally enable Hide Unused Suggestions. Any suggestion you do not use for 30 days stops appearing automatically, and you can restore it later by toggling its switch back on.
Tips and common problems
- No suggestion appears? The message needs a recognizable action, date, address, or tracking detail. Vague texts like "we should hang out sometime" will not trigger anything.
- Using a non-English keyboard? The feature is English-only for now, so suggestions may not appear in other languages.
- Older iPhone? Without an iPhone 15 Pro-class or iPhone 16-or-newer model, the Apple Intelligence engine behind Suggested Actions is not available.
- Don't want any of it? Switch every toggle off under Settings > Apps > Messages > Suggested Actions and Messages goes back to being just a messaging app.
- Privacy note: the suggestions are generated by Apple Intelligence from the contents of your conversation, so the buttons you see reflect what the chat actually says.
The bottom line: iOS 27.2's Suggested Actions is a small, practical win — the kind of feature you will stop noticing because it simply saves you the fiddly copy-paste dance every time someone asks you to remember something. Enable the toggles you want, ignore the rest, and let the one-tap buttons do the busywork.
