Googlebook is real. Google's brand-new Android-powered laptop lineup went on sale on October 4, 2026, with five flagship models from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo starting at $899. It is Google's boldest laptop play yet — not a Chromebook, but a full Android-based computer built around Gemini from the ground up. Here is everything we know, model by model.

What is Googlebook?

Googlebook is an all-new laptop category built on the Android stack with ChromeOS desktop foundations, designed from the ground up around Gemini. In practice that means full Play Store access, deep two-way integration with your Android phone (messages, notifications, gallery and downloads mounted in the file explorer — no cables, no third-party apps), and an AI assistant that works with on-screen content instead of sitting in a sidebar chatbot.

Signature software features include Magic Pointer (shake the cursor and Gemini analyzes what's on screen), Rambler (turns jumbled speech into organized text), Create My Widget, Continue On and Cast My Apps. Every model also gets the Glowbar — a light strip on the lid that shows battery level and reacts when you talk to Gemini. Google promises 10 years of OS updates, and every Googlebook includes 12 months of Google AI Pro with 5 TB of storage (a $239.88 value, per TechAeris).

Across the board: 16GB+ RAM (up to 32GB on ASUS, HP and Dell), SSD storage from 256GB to 1TB, NPUs rated above 40 TOPS for on-device AI, touchscreens at 500 nits, backlit keyboards, haptic glass trackpads and up to six speakers with Dolby Atmos tuning.

Design & display

There is no Google-made model — the five OEMs took the brief in five directions. Acer's is the only 360° convertible with stylus support, making it the pick for note-takers. Dell's XPS Googlebook is the thinnest of the group at 12.7mm and, at 2.2 pounds, tied with ASUS for lightest. HP adds face authentication alongside its fingerprint sensor, and Lenovo's 15.3-inch magnesium-alloy-and-carbon-fiber machine is the big-screen workhorse.

Displays are a genuine highlight: mostly 2.8K OLED touch panels rated at 500 nits, which is MacBook-Air-money territory done properly. Hands-on coverage from The Verge, 9to5Google and Chrome Unboxed all noted fit and finish well above typical Chromebook fare.

Performance

Two silicon camps: Intel's new Core Ultra Series 3 (Panther Lake) on the Acer, ASUS and Lenovo models, and Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite on the Dell and HP. Independent benchmark scores are not yet available — the machines only went on sale on October 4 — so real-world testing against the MacBook Air and Surface Laptop 13 Gen 2 is still to come. On paper, though, the >40 TOPS NPUs put every model in modern AI-PC territory, and Google claims up to 14 hours of video playback.

Pros

  • The phone-laptop integration Android users have waited a decade for
  • Premium hardware: OLED displays, 500 nits, Dolby Atmos, haptic trackpads
  • 10 years of OS updates — longer than most Windows laptops
  • Generous launch bundle: Google AI Pro + 5TB storage ($239.88 value), YouTube Premium and GeForce NOW perks

Cons

  • Not cheap: the headline $899 belongs to the Acer alone, and it is reportedly a launch price that may rise
  • No Google-designed hardware — you're buying an Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP or Lenovo
  • Desktop Android app ecosystem is still unproven on a laptop
  • Launch availability limited to the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia

Where to buy

Googlebook is available now at the Google Store and at Best Buy, with prices starting around $899 for the Acer convertible up to $1,299 for the HP, ASUS and Lenovo models. Best Buy's launch promo throws in a free pair of Pixel Buds 2a with any Googlebook pre-order.

Verdict

Googlebook is the most interesting thing to happen to laptops in years — finally, the Android answer to the MacBook's ecosystem. Early hands-on impressions are surprisingly positive, but at $899–$1,299 these are priced against the MacBook Air, and the desktop Android experience is still unproven. If you live on an Android phone, the Acer Googlebook 14 at $899 is the value bet; everyone else should wait for full reviews before jumping in.
